The Jabal Amman Residents Association (JARA) calles on all Jordanians and foreign nationals residing in Jordan, who are 16 years old and older, to submit photographs that promote JARA’s mission to conserve the identity of the Jabal Amman area. The contest also seeks to display and celebrate the cultural, historical and modern look of the Jabal Amman neighbourhood and communities, according to a JARA statement. The contest begins on November 1 and ends on the October 31, 2010. Eligible photographs will be judged according to visual appeal and composition, originality and creativity. Prizes range from JD100 to JD250. Some of the photographs will be included in book that will be issued by JARA on the history, architecture and famous residents of old Jabal Amman.

A workshop for technology-based art projects, led by artist Tarek Atoui

The multi-stage workshop is organized by Darat al Funun and will commence in the fall of 2009. An introductory talk by Tarek Atoui will take place on September 28th, 2009, and will shed light on the application of new technologies to art projects. The workshop will take place over the course of six months, throughout which participants will develop their projects in direct collaboration with the artist. The workshop is open to participants from Jordan and Palestine.

The Workshop: The aim of this workshop conducted by Lebanese media artist and sound performer Tarek Atoui is to introduce its participants to the diverse and multiple uses of technology in the field of interdisciplinary, visual and sound art.

The participants will be introduced to the world of art-related software and hardware programming, and to several methods of working that apply interactive technologies (interfaces, sensors etc.) to the frame of contemporary and interdisciplinary art forms. Sound and image performances, installations, and other related practices will be inspected as fields where such technologies can be used and implemented.

The workshop will take on a project based approach where each participant will be assisted in developing a project or an artwork that uses or references these technologies.

 Darat al Funun will invite 10 participants from Jordan and Palestine to work with Tarek Atoui on developing an art project for which they will receive the necessary software and hardware equipment. To apply artists must submit a project proposal for a low-budget, media-based project they are interested in realizing, criteria for selecting the final participants will be based on the relevancy and quality of these project proposals.

Darat al Funun will provide travel expenses from Palestine to Amman, accommodation and daily expenses for the workshop’s final participants from Palestine.

Artists interested in developing Media related art practices – based in Jordan or Palestine are encouraged to apply; Project Proposals and CV’s should be in English, Arabic, or French. Participants:

10 participants from Jordan and Palestine will be invited to participate in the workshop. Participants can be of the following profiles:

- Musicians

- Visual artists (video artists, photographers, VJs, etc.)

- Dancers

- Technicians

- Sound engineers

- Education specialists and trainers

- Computer programmers and electronic engineers

Participants have to be familiar with computers and computer basics. Possession of a laptop or personal computer is preferable.

There are no fees for participation in this workshop.

The Royal Automobile Museum, located in Amman-Jordan is the first public automotive museum in the Arab region. Inaugurated by His Majesty King Abdullah II in 2003, it serves as a tribute to the late King Hussein while showcasing part of Jordan’s history.

The museum displays 100 of the late King’s cars and motorcycles, some dating as back as 1909. Standing in pristine condition, each vehicle tells a unique story along the timeline of the late King’s life. Together they highlight the 47-year reign of King Hussein and the history of the Kingdom from the era of HM King Abdullah I in the early 1920s through the contemporary era of HM King Abdullah II today.

The historical element of the exhibition is brought home by rare photo archives and video footage.The museum is also equipped with Audio Guides in Arabic, English, German, French, and Spanish.

The museum includes a Gift Shop featuring miniature car models, museum watches, t-shirts, mugs, and other memorabilia, as well as books and other souvenir items.
